I grew up in a small town were most people commuted to their jobs that are in larger cities, work from home or own their own business.

but then again there is always those bottom feeders that don't work and have the tax payers pay their bills ( food stamps, welfare, etc. etc. )

I'll trade you anyday.
I live in a very big city and I HATE IT!
But I love wide open spaces and especially farm land.
There's always so much to do on a farm and I love animals more than people so that would be a fair trade for me.
If you get bored you can always plant a weeping willow and water it everyday and nurture it and in about 10 years you will have a beautiful tree you can say was put there by you.
There aren't very many jobs in the country but if you have the resources you can rent pasture land to people who needs to board their horses or you can plant corn or something like that and sell it for profit.
Even fruit trees can bring in a nice little profit if you have the land and watering capabilities.
I remember when I lived on a farm I awoke at 5am with excitement and ethusiasm to do my morning chores and feed the animals and live stock.
It was fun.
Now I try to stay asleep at least until 12pm and if there's something to look forwards to I'll get up early but usually there isn't.
The big city is a dangerous place to live.
