If you add two numbers with the same sign, the sign remains the same.

3 + 2 = 5 (all positive)
-3 + -2 = -5 (all negative)

If you add two numbers with different signs, the answer will take the sign of the larger number (in absolute value)

2 + -3 = -1 (takes the sign from the three)
3 + -2 = 1 (takes the sign from the three)

Subtraction is a form of addition. You can think of 3-2 as 3 + -2, and use the rules above.

When you multiply or divide,
+ * + = + and - * - = +,
but + * - = -
and - * + = -
-3 * -2 = +6
3 * 2 = +6
-3 * 2 = -6
3 * -2 = -6

If you have several things to multiply, count the number of minus signs. Odd is negative. Even is positive.

Division is the same as multiplication.
+ / + = +
- / - = +
+ / - = -
- / + = -
