If the war on terror effects the whole world, why does it seem that we are the only country increasing troops?

Every other country is scaling back while we continue to send more over. This is a question to stir debate and to see what people think.

I know I'm going to get lambasted either way, but what the heck. It's always fun to hear opinions.

I am a proud american and support our troops. I'm just not sure I support putting them in harm's way when they would better left here on american soil to protect our land.

The rest of the world knows that there is a better way to handle terrorism and the threat of terrorism than illegally invading another country, killing hundreds of thousands of that country's citizens, ruining the infrastructure, bombing homes, causing a coupla million refugees and creating an environment for whackos from all over the world to enter that country and bomb the bejesus out of it.

They also recognize that there is no reason to subject their military to a "war" that cannot be won as it is being fought. They are not going to risk the lives of their soldiers, break their military, ruin their countries economy because of a few disaffected young people who enjoy committing suicide.

They know that the threat of terror usually comes from within their own country so have put their money and military strength into pumping up their own security, strengthening their borders. They have their military AT HOME and available and their intelligence people out being vigilant.

They and their citizens don't buy into some jerk leader on a power trip who wants Iraq's oilfields so bad he will allow his own military to be ruined, young soldiers killed and maimed. So intractible that he will permit his own economy to go to hell in a hand basket, borrow 2 1/2 BILLION dollars a day from foreign governments.

We seem to be the laughing stock right now because we (not me) elected the idiot and continue to permit him to act like a dictator or a monarch. Other countries are thriving while ours is headed south.

The war is unpopular... and leaders are pressured to bring their troops home.
Some capitulate to the polls, even when it goes against the interests of world security.
Some put sensibility above public sentiment and remain steadfast.

...In the long run...they all know the USA and small coalition will do the shitwork for them..and they can just live in security at the others expense

It's a slogan to appease some group of people here in America, like the war on poverty or drugs, which if we use either one as an example, this one won't go too good either. I also didn't know global really meant Iraq.

the war on terror doesn't involve just troops, in fact it has more to do with groups like the CIA, FBI, Interpol and police from various countries around the world. troops are only involved in Afghanistan and Iraq mainly.

Because we don't want to become like these other countries who have the Muslims moving in and taking over. Look at France, especially Spain where they are actually fighting them! Spain was one of the first to pull out. I think it's good cause we may get it done now.

maybe the more stubborn you are the slower you are to admit your mistakes?
also do you think the other friendly troops who get killed by your inept drug soaked pilots feel safe?

because we are one of the main targets because of our freedom to ask questions like this. democracy is a two edged sword, we need to keep it for ourselves, and we're supposed to help others to achieve it and get rid of their tyranny. our government seems to think we should deplete our men/women and money to "save" the world from the evil men who might do another 911. other countries seem to look out for themselves a little more selfishly.
