I had never thought about it, but you make a really good point. It is a total waste, especially since those resources are in high demand and perhaps they would become a little less expensive if they weren't being wasted so much

No! Auto racing is the proving ground for the auto industry. A great many things we are used to having in the cars we drive every day began life as a necessity on an oval track. They are proving the new technology we will be driving with tomorrow. Better tires, more efficient fuel systems and alternative fuels, more safety devices........I could go on and on.
