AMD Athlon 64 4000 Dual Core Processor
Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
1GB DDR RAM
nVidia GeForce6100 Graphics
2 PCI Slots

My friend said something about it would be faster if i got a new graphics card cause this one is shared or something. i have a 256 Nvidia graphics card.

what you have looks good to me, I wouldn't change.

There are always computer nerds telling you that you can have this and that running faster. The truth is that in practice very few people can tell the difference.

When your friend sad 'it would be faster' what did he mean? It you're talking about gaming, yes a newer graphic card would make things much faster. If you're talking about regular computer use (Internet, e-mail, Word, etc) then a new graphic card wouldn't do much.
The graphic card that you have is about the lowliest Vista-compliant chip out there. However, it does its job and for many people it's all they need.
Those graphics are onboard, and they do share memory with your RAM. Vista is quite graphic-intense, so your 6100 might be using up quite a bit of RAM. As others have suggested, invest in other 1 GB of RAM to run in dual-channel, only then will your computer be faster.

If you dont have a PCI Express slot or an AGP then you cant upgrade, sounds like ur graphics card is built onto the mother board)

If you do have a PCI express slot (16x)
i would highly advise the ATI RADEON X1900XT, best card on the planet at the moment.

NVIDIA are cheap, but ya get what ya pay for.

I would advise ya stick another 1GB ram in that baby,
before ya do anything else...
VISTA will love that ;)

If you are using an on board video card, it is sharing the RAM on your computer. For example if you have 512 MB RAM and the video card needs 32 MB RAM, your computer now has only 480 MB RAM to use for your operating system and your programs. This is one of the problems people face when they have an on board video card that most people do not realize. It is always best to get a video card that has "on board memory" which means the video card has its own memory to use instead of using the memory you have put into your computer for the processor to use.
