By saffron plant do you mean you wish the spice saffron? It comes from Crocus sativus. It is an autumn flowering crocus. The stigmas are harvested for use in cooking.

For culinary use you need acres to produces ounces of this most valuable of spices.Saffron Walden , an English town is named after the flower once grown there. World production is centered on Spain, Iran, Turkey, and the Mediterranean region, but gardeners almost everywhere can grow it, but rarely in amounts suitable for profit.
