Yesterday a homeless guy started insulting me and threatening me. I lost my temper and punched him straight in the face. Now all I think about is if he's ok and I am so worried about the consequences. I went to the police and explained, and they said:"Don't worry, he won't fill a complain. You're safe. Actually, it's good that you hit him, usualy they hit you." I am confused. I am a good man, I never did this before. He was bleeding from his nose, I appologised and gave him money, and he just left. Now I'm dying with worry. I prayed all day for forgiveness from God. I don't know what to do.

they say we are all gods children.and we are loved unconditionally. so in perspective , i dont know if you have children but if you have im sure you love them in this way. and if they ever make a mistake you dont love them less and if they are aware what they have done and feel remorse im sure you would forgive them.they say he works in mysterious ways. maybe this was meant to happen cos from what you said youre really looking in at yourself and questioning what you did .also at the end of day hes said to have made us in his image but dont forget we are not him and what you did was quite a normal reaction to being threatened and frightened. im no religous person but you would in gods eyes be forgiven . hes all about forgiveness you know

Don't worry about it. 1. It was a set up to get money out of you. By making you feel guilty or by mugging you. Most homeless know how to work the system. I see it a lot. They know which hospitals to go to. They have ones that the tax payers pay for all bills and nothing is pass on to the homeless. They know which places give food out. You don't know if he was mentally ill or if he was on drugs. The fact that you walked away is something you need to give thanks for. Take what the police said to heart. That it was good that you hit him, instead of him hitting you. You don't know what condition you might have been in. A bloody nose never hurt anyone.

If you have truly prayed for forgiveness, you are forgiven. I don't think a punch in the face will have harmed the guy too much. It has alerted you to the fact that you have a problem with your temper and hopefully will help you to be more restrained in future.

OK first of all he is probably mentally ill and he provoked you and you feel bad. You realise it was wrong as you have been praying about it (and I will too) You know that if you asked God to forgive you he has. Now you have to forgive yourself and sometimes that is the hardest thing. You simply made a mistake, now forgive yourself and stop beating your self up OK?

God talks to us in mysterious ways. Sometimes he opens our eyes to things in ways that make us feel confused or unhappy. If you feel you need forgiveness, perhaps you could work on helping those in need as a way of clearing your conscience. Money is a useful tool, but real help is infinitely better (shelter or soup kitchen assistance, food, clothing, etc.). Be well!
