I have a 2003 Dodge Durango and don't get the greatest MPG. And with gas prices in Michigan climbing at a steady rate, I am looking for some answers. I have already done the typical ones, i.e checked tire pressure, replaced air and fuel filters, improved driving habits, etc etc. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to what else I could do. Also has anyone used the "Tornado"? Does it work?

DO NOT BUY THE TORNADO! Sorry for the caps but I wanted to get your attention. Everything I have heard about them is that they do nothing but make your wallet a bit lighter. Also, my friend bought a car that already had one in it and it made absolutely no difference. Many auto magazines that contain articles about improving fuel economy also say that the Tornado (and all knock off products like it) do nothing to improve fuel economy.
In the end, if you have truly done everything that you said you have then you are about at your limit. There is only so much you can do. Good luck.

The stock air intake is the most efficient in terms of fuel economy. Aftermarket air intakes are designed to increase peak horsepower, usually at the expense of the mid-range where people do most of their driving. Anyone who seriously believes using a different air filter will increase fuel mileage by 15-20% come see me, I've got some ocean front property in Montana you might be interested in. It is simply not possible. If you want to increase fuel mileage there is nothing you can buy that is going to make any real difference. Just ask the EPA who have tested over 120 supposed mileage boosting products and found that none of them work. The secret is in your right foot and in between your ears. Careful driving habits do more than anything else to improve fuel economy.

Trade it in for something more practical, an older Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L straight 6 is 1,000 times better than a Durango anyday. Plus you'll get a lot better gas mileage.
Adding more and more accessories to your vehicle to try and increase gas mileage doesn't really do much other than add weight to your vehicle and decreasing your gas mileage by as much as what your trying to add. Its best to just get something more practical.

Drive at low RPMS. try not to slam the gas or accelerate fast evertime you get a green light. Its summer. and its hot. but try not to use the A/C so much. it acually uses up gas.and can potentially increase risk of overheating the engine. so open your windows up. and yes the tornado works but not better than the other products like it.

Don't drive it. That's the best way to kepp the fuel in it. (i know that wasn't a nice answer, but) I have heard that that make and model uses a great deal of fuel.

Try driving gently- no rapid acceleration or deceleration, no fast cornering, and reduce driving by eliminating unnecessary trips, and combining necessary ones. You also might walk or bicycle when possible.
