universal consciousness is just another word for GOD....some people for one reason or another don't want to use the word GOD so they make up other words for it like higher power ....and on...and on...yes it is intriguing and mystifying

I believe in Universal Consciousness. I believe we live an existence on the brink of (at least) two awarenesses. One that perceives the everyday material world most people consider modern reality, the logical world. The other most people never recall experiencing long enough to consider it real. It may be entered in dreams, glimpses of intuition, through meditation, through psychedelic substances (risky way to enter), under extreme situations (stress or near-death experiences), or through training in this way of knowledge.
The belief holds that all life forms contain a field (or shell) of energy bands and there are strands ("emanations") of this energy that are capable of connecting beings with each other while communicating or sharing perception. These bands of energy are capable of connecting all things together and to the source of all energy bands.
People who are capable of functioning effectively in both states of awareness are highly evolved individuals capable of many things... including healers, masterful teachers, great happiness, spiritual wisdom, telepathy, and even what some people consider to be "miracles". Unfortunately, there is also the possibility of using these abilities in destructive ways.
My own belief is that good prevails.

The idea isn't really new at all. Many people have thought there was an energy field which connects all things. (I myself believe that God merely has arranged Himself to allow us to exist.) An infinite number of possible beings, and not room enough for them all at this moment.
Therefore, it's a 'Lottery of Souls' in the deep voids from where things are called to Be. Can you see all the pingpong balls just hovering and bouncing? Chaos is an Infinite, as much as anything is.
Anyway- God who has made Us possible connects us in this way. I once participated in an experiment where things were asked of this 'Universal Consciousness', verifying true or false, like an Ouija board.
-A load of crap! Be careful.

I believe we are all in this together, but I am hesitant
to state that the bond which is shared is universal
consciousness. I have not studied universal consciousness
in great depth, but it seems to me that universal
consciousness would imply a deep bond with nature.
I do not perceive people to be in harmony with nature.
My reasoning follows from the human species differing
from most species natural stability. I suppose it could
be argued that perhaps all of the other species are
the species which aren't in balance and that humans
are, but I choose to view human nature as a nature
almost separate from all other nature. In other words,
humans have the widest proximity of effect on the
world other than the combination of all the less sophisticated
species as a combined system.

Truth is only what one belives to be true, out of many beliefs that i have unless i could actually communicate with others without the help of technology i cannot agree with the hypothesis. Also if this was to be the natural, then i would expect it be like the senses, to see and smell and not spied sense (sixth sense) i.e the majority of the organism should posses it if to be normal. Everything else is abnormal or paranormal of which i cannot believe in any.
Best of luck with you search, i cannot discredit your belief, only if i could make myself belive it, then i would be the truth for both of us. But sorry i cant.

I believe in the idea, but "unconsciousness" is more appropriate, since none of us are aware of it happening. The person noted for writing in this area is Jung. The notion appeals to me and explains certain things, but I think there's a lot more to it than some kind of huge telepathic connection: I think there are scientific reasons for this phenomena, and all of them have to do with waves (radio, micro, etc.).

My consciousness (awareness) is in my body. What is generating the universal consciousness and what is the 'universe' aware of? A self-aware universe? The universe would know that it will die at some point. A 'mortal' universe.

You mean Jungian theory by philosopher Carl Jung? Yes, I believe in the unconscious awareness we all have that interconnects us all. I also believe in God whom we all have within us which is the reason we have the unconscious awareness as we are all related by the supreme being.

Western "science" is quite limited in its depth, wisdom and insights. But, since it is "run" by many with limited consciousness and unlimited egos, it will continue with its inept premises and methods. And, of course, the bottom line in our science is money and weapons

What you believe, which, in fact, IS the true nature of reality, has been known in other cultures for, literally, tens of thousands of years. Research in the areas of esoteric Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto, Hinduism, and all traditional "ancient " cultures--Egyptian, Sumerian, Hebrew, etc. and, especially, shamanic and aboriginal practices and teachings--Native american, Polynesian, etc.

The West is very long on hubris, ignorance, violence and superficiality, and very short on wisdom.

I agree with you. We are all part of it. Getting to the point where we all understand that will mark a great achievement.

A very important point is that when we hurt another person, we hurt ourselves as well.
