She is healthy and has grown to about 10" in diameter.
I assume she must be lonely and I wanted to get her a companion.
I applied at a tortise rescue/adoption place but there has been no response.(over a month)
What types of tortoise are compatable and where to get them?
The ones at the pet store are tiny.
I am in Chatsworth Ca. 91311

I don't suggest mixing tortoises together, I know that it has been done , but most of the time when people do mix tortoises there is a compleate fecal check and the tortoises are usually from the same contenent......Since you are searching 4 another Herman's.....I would check out Fauna classifieds, kingsnake.com, and reptile classifieds, there should be at least one or two on one of them......you may also want to check and see if there is any reptile swaps or shows near you.......I know that we have them once a year where I live......I prefer the shows that way I can check the animal over befor I get it, and usually the people that are selling them do have knowlage of the animal and didn't just get it in on a shippment , as most pet store do......here's some thing to keep in mine...Try to get captive bred, or at least one that has been in captivity 4 at least a year, that way "you" won't end up getting a worm filled, sick, stressed out tortoise that will cost hundreds in vet bills and possibly get the tortoise that you allready have sick......So the whole captive bred or long term captive is worth the extra money in the long run,Trust me I have been there and $1250.00 worth of vet bills( that was on one tortoise )....Good luck......

I took a quick look at California Turtle and Tortoise Club site, they track the rescue species they take in and place and very few Hermann's come through that facility. Rescue places don't tend to encourage further breeding so I suspect another female would be placed with you. They do place a fair number of Russian tortoises (Testudo horsfieldii) which would do well in your area and with your Hermann's. They are a similar size with similar diet requirements. Good luck.

Different species of tortoises should never be mixed. There are pathogens/diseases that once species could live with but would be fatal to another. Like us visiting another country and not getting vacinations, we'd get very sick. Same with the torts. I'm afraid the only kind you can put with your Hermann's is another of the same kind. They are not very popular in rescues.
