Electrolysis of the water gives a ratio of 2 volumes H to 1 volume O. According to Avogadro, one mole of any gas occupies 22.4 L at STP and that one mole of a substance contains 6.02 x 10^23 particles. This means that the ratio of moles of H2 to O2 released is 2 : 1, and the ratio of the number of particles of H2 to O2 released is 2 : 1.
