Do you have a PC and a FAX modem?
I FAX through my modem.
You have to first install the component by going to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and click Add/Remove.
Then, click components (not programs).
Run down to FAX and select it.
Next time you want to FAX, open the document and click File, Print. Select FAX as the printer.
Before you are able to use the FAX you will have to configure it - give your name, tell it when to send, setup an address book.
Only one warning - if your computer works like mine, if at any time a FAX fails, delete it before you shutdown. This will not delete your file, just the FAX from the outbox. If you don't, the next time you power on, the FAX will try to go out while Windows is loading and you will get the big freeze. This is one royal pain.

Yes, because the fax machine is only scanning the document you are sending, and doesn't need ink. Just like scanning things into a computer.

Yes, you can fax to other people as long as they have ink in their fax machine. You will be unable to receive faxes, though.
