I had wretched heartburn after my miscarriage. Antacids weren't enough, but charcoal capsules from the health food store really helped. Burnt toast is the old wives' version.

The baby's safety was no longer as issue, so I don't know about that aspect. The only concern that I can think of is that charcoal absorbs nutrients. Advice is to take it away from meals to minimize that. Might be worth looking into because it really works.

LOL i'm in the same boat. I'm 6 months pregnant and it seems like drinking water will give me heartburn. Here are somethings you can try: tums, drinking milk, ice cream ( vanilla ), eating smaller meals and smaller bites. stay away from anything spicey of course, don't lay down right after a meal. If push comes to shove as it did with me my dr. put me on presc. medication. It's totally safe for the baby. And as always consult your dr. if you have any questions.

Eat very small meals about 2-3 hours apart. Avoid greasy, fatty foods which will make the acid worse. Take small bites and chew thoroughly before swallowing. Drink a lot of water to help flush the food through your system.
Ask your Ob/Gyn about taking an antacid like Tums which will also give you a calcium boost.

Tums
Eat small frequent meals rather than large meals
Sitting upright after eating for about an hour

I'd advise against milk, it can actually makes heartburn worse (may give temporary relief, but triggers the release of more stomach acids). http://heartburn.about.com/b/a/256264.htm

I was the same way. Doctors recommend that you don't take anything but Tums or Rolaids.
Maybe drink some milk?

I have heartburn also. My doctor said it was ok for me to take Pepcid Complete. It works really well, too. I just also bought some new Gaviscon tablets. They work really well, also.
