everytime i install my drivers for my graphics card, when i start my computer, the windows xp thingy shows, and then the screen goes black. what should i do??

Stop installing drivers for your graphics card...duh!

Boot up in safe mode and UN install it. then restart, the computer will install a new driver . if the new driver makes the screen looks ugly go to device manager and click on update the driver.

Well there is probably a problem with your MRB(master boot record) so I would make an Emergency Boot Disk on a floppy. It is simple:
GO to
Start/programs/accessories/system tools

You'll see it there.

Then change your boot order from Hard drive to floppy drive first and that should work.

Or try going into safe mode
It will say press F5 or something else to see boot options.

I can suggest some Windows Repair sites for you. After you repair Windows, I would establish or create a "restore point" and indicate that it is just prior to installing whatever ...

Then, if it messes up, you can go right back.

I usually upgrade through the Control Panel:
Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Hardware
Device Manager
right-click the item you want to upgrade
it will tell you if it is working properly and allow you to upgrade the drivers
