Few weeks back my mother changed over from BT to talk talk as my phone provider and since then I have had problems with my internet.

I’m under AOL as my internet provider.

I have got in contact with AOL and talk talk and they basically saying its not them, they have tested my connection and said its all fine.

But no chance there is defiantly a problem.

I have deleted all my cookie files.
all my cache files
Deleted my history
Looked for any video or movie files that might be eating up loads memory
have checked my computer for viruses and spys .using ad ware se professional , kaspersky Anti virus
Went to system restore and restore to a time before the problem
Checked my firewall for any problems

But still nothing the only way I have a fast connection, is going on fire fox or internet explorer I’m starting to run out of ideas

I did have a fast connection for a few seconds, when I went on a different screen name on my aol account but then it just jammed, I was thinking could some one be spiking my phone connection for example a next door neighbour.

Or Could the problem be more computerised or could it be my dsl modem or lead that runs in to my phone

I’m running out of ideas

If you use BROADBAND, which can slow your internet speed, especially if your NEIGHBORHOOD (where you live) area uses [SHARING] it a lot!!
This does NOT happen when using DSL. DSL is usually less expensive than BROADBAND, too.

Here is my maintenance checklist:

- set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
- review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
- from Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history.
- run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
- periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — they type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).
These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.
It will also help if you download two free programs: Ad-aware and Spybot .

Doesn't appear you reduced your start menu and you don't mention if you use wallpaper or screensavers. These consume memory which will seriously slow you down. With that said, if you use dialup, that is slow all by itself which is why I made the sacrifice to go cable.

I fully understand what your'e going through with Talk talk-AOL.ive had problems since day 1 of being with them.Ive spent hours on the phone to them, but it's never there fault. They said i had no problem with my line even though it was sooooo crackley all the time and i kept losing my connection when i finally managed to get connected.I even for a few week had to ring my mobile and it cleared my phoneline and i could then get connected for a few minutes,I did this loads of times and on my phone bill from them i was charged 90p a time just for ringing my mobile and giving it a missed call.I rang up and complained and they are supposed to be knocking the money off my next bill. They then said it must be my modem that was faulty so they sent me the cream coloured 1 and on my next bill they have charged me £29.99 for it.So once again i had to ring them and complain. The final thing that happened i got a man come check my phoneline and he took the cover off the box outside my house and the wires just snapped in his hand.He did that for me and put me a new socket in the house, which did the trick but it's still slow at times.I also forgot to say to you that for 2 weeks i had no landline phone at all,it was totally dead,it just shows how much them tossers know. They even on 1 occasion made me look a right idiot by saying that i need a 8meg microfilter so i went in a pc shop and they said there's no such thing,a filter is a filter. If you get no joy, ring up and ask to be put through to the cancellation dept, and you should then speak to someone english who you can understand and tell them the problems you are having.Good luck mate

this happened to me sometime back... i have an ADSL connection ...so the phone line is shared between the DSL connection and my normal phone...
the problem turned out to be that i was connecting telephone sets directly to the wall socket .. without using splitters...so they were creating noise and my connection was real slow it even disappeared when i got a call or tried calling anyone from other phone sets.
you should check your wire connections.

How are you connecting to the internet?

Through a wired modem?
Through a wired router?
Through a wireless router?

This can help - make sure your router is set up properly - install the AOL software on it - When I reset mine I had to re-install the software on the router to connect to AOL - they know how it should be set up, not me!

my neighbour was with talk talk and had similar problem that you are having, would sugest if all your antivirus etc. are up to date, get in touch with your ISP, and start laying the law down and to start with, by saying that you are paying for service that you are not receiving, and then see what happens, if you are not satisfied take the matter further....... good luck R
