Compaq generally put a copy of the restore files on the "D:" section of the hard disc, and this can be accessed either at switch on or from the help and support section of windows help or "Start - pc help & tools"

You need to us the compaq disk or a new windows xp disk to load it up . Go to best buy they may have a old copy of the disk or it will cost you about $125 from HP.

Easy you hit start then turn off computer then restart. if you are refrencing how to reformat the computer with out the disks that is impossible, you need to have media or some form of an operating system before you can do a system restore.
