I would suggest doing a system restore to an earlier time when your computer actually worked. Believe it or not that fixes alot of computer issues. Dependingon how far back your data is stored and how long you've been having this issue. Also what version of Windows are you running? That might be helpfull to know.

It would be a large update like service pack 3 of XP. Go to internet and forgot about the updates & if update are downloaded when you shut down there will be option to install or not the updates.

You CPU might be over heating so it shuts itself down and well the computer freezes(actually it doesn't freeze because the CPU is HOT but whatever) or you might have a virus. That might be it. It may be the time for a new computer(I love that tie!!!!)Also system resore. If you are running windows 98 than well it freezes because it is windows98 and it is OLD!!

Windows Update requires SP3. See if it can be downloaded as a standalone installer and get it installed. It's a big, and important one. This should make things work better.

the only thing that i can think of that might fix your problem would be to restore your computer. Then afterwards check if IE is working properly and install the necessary updates
