The holes are believed to be entrances into caves or into the interior of Mars since they go very deep due to light going into them and not coming back out. Could these holes be entrances to a former civilization? What if life were discovered there?

I stay very much on top of the exploration of Mars, and I've never heard of these holes. Where did you hear about them?

P.S. I found this excellent article with images of these recently discovered features:

One of the images is today's Astronomy Picture of the Day:

I would assume that these are natural features, until shown otherwise. Thanks for asking about them; I learned something new today!

If life was there it died out a long time ago. The planet lost most of its atmosphere a long time ago.

There are natural caves on earth without needing people to dig them. This could be the case on Mars too.

There is no evidence of any civilization on Mars. If life would be discovered there, it would be fantastic but highly unlikely.

It's an ancient miniature golf course. If they look harder, they'll find the other two holes.
