I am trying to find a place in eastern PA where I can both hunt and practice long-range shooting. I would like to either buy a big parcel of land for this purpose, or find an owner from whom I could rent land for this use.

Web searches for this have proven useless, since there are so many businesses trying to refer to traditional real estate brokerages (for developed real estate).

1. Where can I go to determine where large parcels are for sale, and what the costs are?

2. Are there any forums where large land-owners would offer to rent their land to private individuals for sporting purposes?

That link above is the best source I've yet to see that may have exactly what you're looking for....I look around occasionally for horse farm properties.

Pick an area where you'd like to hunt, and contact a large successful real estate company in that area. They will know what's for sale, what's for lease, etc. A large company will have more contacts with the local landowners, and more likely know more about who may want to lease land.

Or once you pick the area, go there personally, and go to the county courthouse, township offices, etc, and find the tax assessor's office. Ask to see the plat map that shows land owners. Pick out the land owners that have large parcels of land in areas that you're interested in hunting (near a river, for example, or near state land where the state has managed the land to increase the deer herd, if that's what you're after). Contact those land owners and see if they are interested in leasing their land.

I would go to a farm store in smaller local towns and put a notice on a board. In Kansas we do things like that all the time and we get answers. I don't know how things are in other States but that's what I'd do. Also you could put an ad in a paper that you're looking for land like that and a number to reach you at. You could even post online.

Too bad you aren't in south western Pa, we have land that we let people we know hunt on.

Unless you are friends with someone who has land, or buy it yourself, I'd either try putting up 'wanted' signs to either do a lease agreement or just for hunting permission. Either that or go to the Pa gamelands to hunt.

The only thing I suggest if you want to buy your own land is, check out some land sites. I haven't tried any of these btw.

Reevaluation is mandatory. 5 acres is microscopically small for something different than a extensive backyard and a few chickens. Financially nicely-off people like to seek and fish, so this suggests the cost of 'entertainment land' is extremely extreme. could besides ask for much less costly California sea coast front belongings.
