It is really hard - I gave up 4 months ago and have managed to stay off however, it has taken a fair few goes beforehand!. I just picked a day and stopped. I do feel so much better now but to start with it was really hard. I think cold turkey is best - why replace the drug you are trying to give up with a substitute. Stay away from the pubs for a couple of weeks as it's too much of a temptation. Just keep reminding yourself you are doing the right thing! Well done for trying and good luck.

I've been using the patches and it's been just under six weeks now. I never thought I'd be able to do it because I've tried so many times before. Go and see the nurse and you can get the patches on prescription - usually 2 packs which (assuming you are UK) makes it £6.85 for 2 packs instead of £17+ for one pack. Also, the inhalator can help to begin with and this can be given on prescription to.
Don't give up flower! If you are really determined, just keep on trying, you'll get there in the end.
Good luck - it's not easy but boy you feel good about yourself when you do it.

it is really all in the subconcious. YOU really have to want to way down deep. As long as u keep trying, one day u will succeed
I quite last July and made it 3 months and then had 1 here and 1 there until i was up to a pack aweek and started having chest pains again. So i started over a month ago and am doing well so far, not without astruggle mind u, but still working on it. Try going to Waytoquit.com and see if they can help u. it's like a back up group to support u in ur trying.
good luck

It is hard but so worth it. My husband and i smoked for 25 years and 2 years ago decided we needed to give up. We went to see the nurse in our doctors who held a smoking clinic. We saw her every week and any other time we felt we needed her and it worked great. We used the patches as well. For three weeks it was pure hell but as time went on it got easier and easier and even now 2 years on we still occassionally say Mmmm could have a cig but then the feeling goes. I dont think either of us would go back. We feel so much healthier too.
Good luck and dont give up.

Cold turkey is the way to go. You instantly solve the problem, don't have to waste anymore money, time or worry about it anymore. Cold turkey now and that's it. Over finished done. If you have withdrawal symptoms, deal with it, sweat it out, smoking will not be your problem at this time.
If you get a feeling in your gut like you just have to light one up, forget about it! Turn that around to remind yourself that you don't smoke anymore, that's good and you should be proud. In a short amount of time you will get these feeling less and less. Stick to it.

SNAP I know exactly how you feel ,truthfully I've been a nicotine addict since I was 12yrs and have been trying to give up since 1979 and now I've got a Lung Disease that'll eventually kill me in a horrible way so LEARN from this GIVE IT UP no matter what it takes, If you have to get yourself put into isolation until you are free of it do it NOW but for Gods sake give it up.

I had some better success with the Patch, but flunked out when the work stress got too much. YOU need to be most motivated to quit. Exercise DOES help a lot, as does change of diet. It's harder to quit than heroin...good luck!

I worked my way down to 4 cigs a day, without any help. After that, I got a prescription from my Dr for Chantix. That took care of it. Kicking the habit is tough. Those who have never smoked have no idea how difficult it can be. Good luck to you.

It's because your body has gotten so used to all the chemicals in cigarettes and when you quit, your body craves it. I quit cold turkey. The only thing that helped me was lots and lots of exercise and willpower. It's not easy, but you can do it. There is a pill (anti depressant) that you can get from your doctor to help you, at the start. I've heard very good things about it. Good luck to you.......you can do it. :o)
