Identity is impermanent. I suspect that you are different than from when you were 3. I suspect you are different than when you were 5. I suspect you are different than when you were 10.
As you have changed over time, so too do nations and their citizenry. It is when we resist change that it happens more quickly.
The US has been steadily changing since its inception. If you don't see the evidence, you may be experience confirmation bias.
The traditions of the US were slavery and racism and no rights for women. The traditions of the US were medically unconsented procedures and experimentation on citizens. The tradition of the US was to disavow any rights for children. The tradition for more than 2/3 of its existence was for segregation.
Ah, tradition.

Only a fool believes an identity is all about tradition. That's called stagnation, and it's very unhealthy. If you argue that identity is just tradition, then I say identity is worthless.

Not really . I feel that those far left liberals who hijacked the democrat party - are ashamed of American traditions..with the way they slam our country..religion ..Christmas , etc.
Each generation adds their own traditions over the years ..but all in all , we keep our identity - despite any adversity we may come across - this is still America ..land of the free and home of the brave..Nothing will ever conquer that . They may try..but we aren't going quietly ..

the traditions of America are found in it's original people... but today's Americans have yet to overcome the narrow minds of their religious heritage and build sound traditions of their own.

America's traditions are changing all the time. It once was a tradition to have slaves but we don't do that any more. We don't have witch hangings or burnings. Or anything like that.

this sounds like you know what you are feeling about America! Send this question to newspapers and television shows (local news and other shows). Glad to know that someone paid attention in (social studies) history class, as well.
