I read somewhere there is something you can put in the soil when you lift old roses so that you can plant new ones immediately

I have only ever heard of taking and putting rocks in the hole before you add water and rose bush and put soil back on top of hole . It seems to work pretty well cause never had a rose to die on me . good luck and I hope I helped.

It is always a question of soil in either Rose, Mums, Lilly, etc. Check it and do it now.
Make the soil, the exposure to sun, the irrigation right and you still have about six to seven year of life. Insects, pest, weather, all have a factor. Hybrid's live five to seven, Shrubs such as the Miedlander twenty plus. All Rose's.
Look pick the type of Rose you want. They all have a life expectancy. You can place emphasis on the prize roses in your garden and spray them with everything known to mankind ( I did it for my ex) and they die. I planted Shrub Roses in 1997 and they bloom to December even in 2006.
Make sure the soil is right in that it has a mixture of moss, topsoil, and an acidic agent (Mircl-Gro). New is that exactly. Do what you would with any new plant. Wherever you are planting the existing you should do the same for that plant..
Did you read, in that article, what to do with the soil for a transplanted Rose?
The quote a Rose is a Rose is so true. It blooms either in site or transplant. The problem is you never grew a Rose from birth and thus transplanted the original. Do the same for the new addition and the latest reduction.

If the old roses have been growing well, do nothing.
When you plant the new ones water well and keep moist till you see new growth. Then you can begin fertilizing lightly with rose food.
Hope this helps.
