they are only words. why should you need to protect people from words? why are they offensive? they are letters of the alphabet placed into a certain order by the brain and spoken through the vocal chords. how can that possibly be profane?
what harm can ever be done using words alone without the ignorance of the listener getting in the way. In the past "profanities" were used by people who wanted to be seen as 'tough' and 'rebellious' offending the delicate ears of those around them but Lenny Bruce, Billy Connolly, Bill Hicks et al have tried to change all that over the decades. there is a long way to go but we're getting there. they are emphatic words with many uses and should be embraced and used properly.

Most comedians are speaking to an adult audience. The majority of their jokes or monologues is from actual events. Pryor grew up in a brothel, how did you expect him to speak? Black Comedians aren't the only ones. Dennis Leary has a filthy little mouth on him and his jokes can be down right mean. (some of the stuff he said about the BeeGee's when Andy Gibb died was pretty bad. He even went off on the Kennedy's). Andrew Dice Clay can't open his mouth with out a swear word coming out.

It is not just black comics, I saw Howie Mandell and he was just as profane, and very funny. I think some people think some things are funnier if there is alot of swearing.
I listen either way, funny is funny
But it is not good family fun

More than likely the content of their act is also adult-oriented. So as a responsible parent, if they are swearing, you'd more than likely watch it on your own, and watch something different with the kids.

Exactly, I can't watch any of it when my son is up. Do they really need to curse that much to be funny? I know steve harvey curses, but I just heard some stand up from him where he didn't say a single profanity and he was much funnier
