Sounds like you'd like The Decemberists! Also, Sufjan Stevens, Matisyahu, The Shins, and The Postal Service are all amazing and generally upbeat.

The Flaming Lips, Alright, they aren't exactly indie but their old stuff is buzzy and fun try "Clouds Taste Metallic" or "The Soft Bulletin". Newsboys are a christian group, nice job whoever suggested them, ninja fundamentalist. Interpol is good if you feel like slitting your wrists because your Joy Division cd's are scratched.....

I recently discovered SUGI TAP, a reformation of two of the former members of EVE 6 (Max Collins and Jon Siebels).
Eve 6 was awesome, and I still listen to them alot.
