First of all, what YEAR and what ENGINE, is your Taurus equipped with? You obviously have a transmission failure of some sort. Try selecting MANUAL 1, to see if the vehicle will move forward. Drive it in MANUAL 1 to see how the car behaves. It SHOULD start in 1st gear, and HOLD 1st gear. Release the throttle, and you SHOULD have "compression braking" as the car coasts to a stop. Now try selecting MANUAL 2 (if equipped), and see how the car behaves, if it will move. MANUAL 2 selection on any Ford vehicle (if equipped) commands 2nd gear start, and HOLD, with compression braking. Document ALL information, as well as transmission fluid LEVEL, and COLOUR to the servicing technician, and diagnosis will be VERY quick. The bottom line is, the transmission will require removal for repair of this problem. Hope this helps.

It sounds like it may be in the transmission. This happened in my chevy blazer. I started reversing then the whole thing stopped. When I put it in drive, I was able to move forward. A shield plate had broken off and I had to get my transmission rebuilt.

When the transmission if the taurus went, it went gradually. If I was stopped at a light or a stop sing when I stepped on the gas the car skipped a little. To avoid this I would put the car in reverse, back up a couple of feet then put it in drive. This way the car didn't skip. However, it got to the point where this wouldn't work and had to get another transmission. In my case I had two engine mounts that were broken when we first got the car and this had damaged the transmission.

What years is it? Your transmission pump is working fine. reverse is the highest pressure gear. It sounds like a solenoid problem. Do you have any transmission code?

one of your transmission solenoids is burnt out and needs to be replaced. Transmission case needs to be opened up and looked at
