Former Bush Secretary of Defense Donald "Rummy" Rumsfeld.

He's available.

He's established as being able to take crap from above in metric tonnage amounts.

Regardless of the results on the field, he'll say that things are going great.

He'll deploy players off the DL in no time, regardless if they're healthy.

He'll insist that Arizona is the greatest threat to the Yankees' postseason hopes, because you can't trust those guys in the desert. (Pointing out that the D'backs are in the other league will be immaterial.)

Even when the magic number is zero, he'll avow that victory is just around the corner.

When it comes to evil empires, he's mastered the "evil" part, and has a history of trying to establish empires.

He has a proven track record of spending bottomless pits of money with utter abandon. (He won't waste any on an armored bullpen car, though.)

He'll save Steinbrenner some scratch by sending the players onto the field without costly elbow guards or batting helmets, which are for wussies anyway, not manly Yankees.

He'll make sure any gay players are released. (Sorry about this one, but I'm on a roll.)

Even after the season is lost, he'll get his own championship ring.

Yankee Stadium concessions will be outsourced to Halliburton in a no-bid contract. Unsurprisingly, the beer will become even waterier, while the price triples to $21 for a 12 ouncer. Anyone noticed complaining will be denounced as being not a true Yankee fan.

The entire minor leagues will be called up during a September roster surge in order to make one last last chance at winning, which is bound to happen as soon as the corner is turned.

And whatever the travel schedule says, the Yankees will end up going to the wrong ballpark, where they'll look for the bats that he's sure are hidden there.

Oh dear, I've well worn thin the joke. Anyway, Rummy's your guy.

The rest of the American League will thank you. Administrative incompetence makes a difference in baseball.

Edit: on the matter of "cannot read", there's a distinct difference between "predecessor" and "successor". People are laughing.

thats a good question, too bad these losers have to write such ridiculous responses. grow up people. in recent years, cashman has done a great job with the money and resources given to him. this year it hasnt worked out so well. im sure the yankees will search far and wide for a comparable GM.

I am going to have to go with Satan!
If Satan is too busy putting together his own "Evil Empire" to take the job then I suppose they could ask just about anyone willing to take marching orders from Old George!

But the Jokes are so funny! How hard can it be to be their GM? "Oh your the best at your position and your offered 10 mil a year, one sec" "My boss tells me I can offer your 13!" They don't actually get any control anyways, its like having Daniel Snyder as an owner!
