All good answers, and the advice is right on except in some instances. The best advice I ever received was 13 years ago after I woke the baby at my ex mother in law's house (whom I am still great friends with much to my ex husbands displeasure) to change my baby's diaper cuz I smelled the stench. The baby wouldn't go back to sleep.
She said: Next time, Let sleeping babes lie. The poop isn't gonna get up and run away. Take the time to do something for yourself while she is sleeping and you can clean up the poop later.
I don't know of any babies dying because they slept in poop for 2 hours. SO anyways, clean them when they need it, but don't wake them just because they need changed!

Change the poopy ones right away otherwise baby can get bad diaper rash or an infection. Changing the wet ones every couple hours is usually enough.

a soiled one, as soon as you can so it doesnt cause diaper rash. A wet diaper can wait a little while, think about when your baby sleeps through the night, hes not going to change his own...

How long would you want to wait till someone changed your diaper if you had gone. lol Not long im sure. So as soon as you notice i would change it. If not could cause diaper rash, and could be painful for baby when you have to scrubb it off cause its dried.

I worked in Child care most of my life. I have always seen the centers had to change a child every hour on the hour. Then as needed for messes in between. It's not a good thing to do less than this. Your child comfort is your main concern. Your risking a bad rash as well as discomfort.

Ummm well if you had to wear a diaper when would you want someone to change yours? Seriously, you need to change your dirty diaper immediately because no one wants to smell it and your baby doesn't want to sit in it if you allow your baby to sit in it most likely you will have a harder time potty training too.

If it's poopy, it should be changed as soon as possible. I change wet ones at obvious times, like before and after bed and nap time, bathtime, etc, and periodically throughout the day when you think they need it.
