When the question was asked in September 2005 the consensus seemed to be that it was a guy named Luke Appling. He supposedly took about 19-24 pitches, but nobody seemed to know the name of the pitcher. He was before my time and i never heard of him.
In more recent years, Bob Feller threw 20 pitches at somebody once, but I do not recall who and do not know if that is a record .
There were stories of some of the old guys, like Ty Cobb, getting upset and hitting several foul balls just to prove a point or to tire a pitcher, but those may have just been for the movies, and nobody seems to know for sure how many pitches they took.
