Jay Z, even though I dont care for hip hop. Nirvana pretty much recycled 70's Led Zepplin and Early 80's Hardcore, not a original in my book at all...

I believe that each affect their music differently. Nirvana was the band for an entire generation of angst. Jay-Z spoke to the downtrodden people of rap (Although I think Nas and Tupac meant more to rap).
As for my personal belief, I think Nirvana affected their music and the people listening to it more.
