how does a firewire card go into a computer?

I am thinking about buying a firewire card b/c my comp. doesn't have one...but ummm......how will I be able to put it in my comp to transfer videos from my video camera?

Buy one, open the case, plug it into one of the spare PCI slot, turn on computer, if you have Windows 2000 or XP, it should just work.
