You begin with kJ for a process, or something like kJ/gram.

For example, suppose you do something with 100g water and the energy of "whatever" is 100kJ. The molecular weight of water is 18g/mol, so:

100kJ/100gH2O x 18gH2O/1molH2O = 1/18 = 0.0555kJ/mol

Or suppose the heat of "whatever" is given as 100kJ/g for water; what is it per mole?

100kJ/1gH2O x 18gH2O/1molH2O = (18)(100) = 1800kJ/mol

n(mol) = m(g)/M therefore you times by molecular weight(M) as its on the bottom of the dash.

KJ/g * M = KJ/mol
