Thanks for all of the ideas, everybody! They are very helpful; however, I will do the one that Starr sent me: The Hubble Space Telescope. Because of my limited time period, I will do it because of its ABUNDANCE of information. If I had more time I would do the one about the exoplanet 'OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb'. I may do that for another paper one day, who knows? Thanks again for all of your help!

Play some Kerbal space program! The amount of Kerbals you'll kill before getting them to Mars is enough to make you fairly scared. But really, it's an awesome but also really broad topic. You could make a history of space discovery, from the theorems of the greek philosophers and Galileo Galilei's telescope to putting the first men in to orbit, and modern communication. You could write about the possibility's of discovering/existing of extraterestial life. Or about rocket engines. The possibility's are as big as space itself xD What I usually do is read a lot and then make a story out of it. Remember, essays dont have to be the full truth. They arent going to be checked on that anyway. You'll be fine, as long as you have had at least one practice run. I remember in high school freshman year I had all these facts but ended up burning through them in 3 mins.

first of all, dont panic. 1000 words is a lot less than it seems. just go to an online encyclopedia ( i like wikipedia, whatever some people may say ) and look up something like the hubble telescope or the mars rover. do a bit of research, from at least 3 sources ( that should take an hour to an hour and a half ) and then write your essay. and remember, 1000 words is nothing.

How about how far space exploration has come? When I was a kid (long long ago lol) space exploration was a very new idea, and the first rocket into space had everyone intrigued, now, it is so routine that not all people pay attention. You can find a lot of info about exploration from then and now. From the info you find online, you can see how far it's come.
Good Luck, hope this helped.

Time is tight, but you should be able to finish. A good topic might be the advantages and disadvantages of manned versus unmanned space exploration.
For example, unmanned space exploration can accomplish most of the scientific goals of exploring space without the expense and hazard of risking lives to do it. On the other hand, manned exploration is an advance toward a distant future of longer space travel and colonizing other worlds.

Is NASA lying to us? Has man really set foot on the Moon yet? Has man even been in space yet? Is the Earth flat?
