You must spend your money for the best brand.
As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even had to service it at least once up to now.
I recommend you to buy a HP(with experience) or Dell laptop.
On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop.

Any of those is good. Apple is more for specific applications and a little expensive for the average user. Dell is also good, HP, Toshiba pretty much only does laptops (other than monitors, printers etc) so, they are definately experts in the field.
DO NOT BUY ACER. Other than that, find one that fits your budget and your need. Example, a laptop that you want to use for word processing etc, will not be as robust as one that you would like to use for gaming. You will also want to look in to security features. Another thing to look at is the damage capabilities. Example, Toshiba now creates a buffer zone between their motherboard and the edges of the laptops, they also create the kb/unit of the laptop a tiny bit larger than the screen, so, if accidentally dropped you won't break and have to replace your LCD for your laptop. That in itself can save you up to $1000.
Good luck!

Best, alienware, voodoo, xps or falcoln northwest. Best for the money is dell followed by toshiba/compaq/hp. IF you can hold untill July, there will be huge price wars. If you need one now, the dell 6400 is the best bang for the buck. I'm buying my niece a notebook for graduation, but she knows she's not going to get it until late july because new stuff is being released every day and I want to give her somethiing that will last a long time

there is couple of belongings you want to take interest. First, are you going to apply for own or corporation, or maybe both. 2d maximum major is the conventional of CPU this is the speed of the workstation... manufacturers that are sturdy.(centruno, intels, highend-IBM) those particular manufacturers are decision duriable and would very last a lengthy time period... manufacturers like AmD, Celeron are the low end... yet nevertheless effiecent and would proform an same job. in the present day the numbers run from a million.5 - 2.6 ok.. this is the numbers that be certain the speed of your comp. as an party, my laptop is operating on 2.4K. this is rather quickly... at present they have labtops that would want to correctly out round 3.3-4K for lower priced yet ok labtop, i'd problemly look at intels and AmDs. then you opt to look on the reminiscence area those numbers feels like this "60G complicated" ...40-60G is an outstanding source of area. as an instance, "take one action picture and also you opt to obtain, avg video clips is about 2.4-2.6G of reminiscence... Do the maths... and also you've 30 video clips on one lab properly...yet as a rule like you wont... very last yet no longer a lot less, ensure you favor the certain upload-ons... as an party CD/DVD author, Floppy, And instantaneous mouse... and so on.. you get the point. My suggestion to you is purchase a labtop that mets your individual life... spend between seven-hundred-1100K on one.... yet do no longer exceed 1100.. because you're throwing funds away on belongings you fairly dont' choose.... Piece out ... and sturdy success

APPLE MACBOOK! They're waaayyy better than a stinky old Dell or other Windows-based piece of crap.... and you can also turn your macbook into a stinky Windows based piece of crap! Just wait until Leopard comes out in October; you'll feel ripped off if you get a new laptop with Tiger, since the Bootcamp app (which lets you part your HD for Windows and Mac on your Macbook) is for trial purposes on a Tiger system. Make the right choice...

Cheap and best is Acer. Costly and Great is Toshiba. Affordable and Durable is Hp. Cheap and useless is Dell. Well my advice is don't by a laptop that is 'Made in China'. Made in Japan is always good even though it is costly. There is a reason for it which even i did not find out.

i have a dell 1 year old and it sucks! go with compaq. when u get the system, reinstall windows. any company like this puts a lot of garbage on the system. do not buy norton! use avg anti spyware, and anti virus. use the free one. use zone alarm for your firewall. dont use windows firewall if u have a faster connection then dialup. make sure there is a padded lining around the hard drive so it is shock and damage resistant.

I have a red Sony Vaio, with a metallic pink keyboard and its fantastic. Just make sure that if you choose a PC over a Mac, that you buy norton anti-virus and anti-spyware software, because PCs are apparently more suseptible to viruses than Macs.

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're into gaming, you're going to want lots of memory and processor power and those tend to be more expensive. If you're just looking at more universal laptops that are inexpensive and reliable, I'd suggest the Compaq Presarios.
