the spinning induces an altered state of consciousness such as a trance which makes them more able to be close or receptive to the spiritual realm where God is. It's similar to meditation or chanting or the "Holy Spirit" in some baptist churches or dance in Voodoo ceremonies which all do the same thing, alter your normal consciousness so you can be more "attuned" to the spiritual.

There are many ways to come close .... or in tune with god or whatever you want to call the universal intelligence.

Peyote, pot, LSD, mushrooms etc are all avenues to achieve the same effect. :)

Having witnessed them in action. It is a very peaceful thing and inspirational. made me a bit dizzy, yet its a beautiful cultural dance, not just part of the religion.
