Do the movie theatres get the film reels from the movie studio, or a distributor? Do they have to pay for it?

And, when they mail the film reels, are there any special conditions that the film reels have to be put in so that the film reels are in good condition to show?

The theatre I go to I think uses movie reels & film projectors, not discs. (I could be wrong)

Yes to all. They get them from a distributer. Depending on the arrangement between the theater and the distributor they may have to pay a set fee or based on how many tickets are sold. I think in most big chain theaters, nearly all the ticket money goes to the distributor. The theater makes money on refreshments and on ads they show before the movies.

But, I think some theatres show special digital discs now, instead of film. Much less expensive to manufacture and ship and keep from damage. I remember reading years ago that it cost >$50,000 to make one copy of a feature movie on film. Probably a lot more today.
