Ishmael. The descendants of Isaac, are the descendants of his son, Jacob - who was also called Israel. The Israelites, now the called the Israelis and the Jews are all descendants Jacob, the son of Isaac. The guy who answered before is incorrect. Isaac was the son of Abraham that was to be sacrificed. Abraham was promised as many descendants as there were stars in the sky. His wife Sarah, was unable to bear children,so she had Abraham sleep w/ her servant.This relationship resulted in the birth of Ishmael. Then, when Sarah was in her 90s she miraculously gave birth to Isaac. Isaac was loved far more by Abraham, but God asked Abraham to sacrifice him anyways. Right before he did it, the Lord stopped him and told him that for his faithfulness he would bless him. So, Arabs are from Ishmael, Isrealis from Isaac

They are descendants of Ishmael, and they claim that Ishmael was the son that Abraham was to sacrifice to God. This is significant because God promised to build a great nation through the son that was to be sacrificed.

Read on... Genesis 17 :19 -21 God's covenant was established through Abraham's second born son , Isaac yet he promised that he would bless Ishmael, greatly increase his numbers & make him into a great nation...he stressed his covenant would be though Isaac , born of Sarah
