The security light has been coming on and the won't let the car start. When it turns off, I can usually put the key back in and it will start. But lately, It turns off and I put the key in, and it still won't start. The security light turns back on. I am so frustrated with this head ache of a car. Anyone know what the problem could be?

If you find it is not the key you need to get the ignition cylinder replaced. the key cylinder has two small white wires that come off the cylinder and go through the steering column, if one of these wires is broke (and it happens all the time) the car will not crank at all until it is repaired, otherwise if it will still crank..you should try another key, they are about $20 as oppose to getting a new cylinder at about $220

Try some contact cleaner in the Ignition switch and on your keys security chip, there could be something on the key or in the ignition slot that prevents them from properly coming into contact with each other. Let the contact cleaner dry for a moment before you put the key in the slot. If this does not help you need to have this checked out.

Check with a dealer or alldata.com for a TSB on this problem --I believe there was a bad ignition cylinder replacement on that model---the little tiny wires that run from the ignition cylinder to the harness would get weak from the cylinder rotating and eventually break...and the wires will lose good contact intermittently.Could also be as others have suggested that the contacts in the cylinder are bad---try Radio Shack for a electrical contact cleaner---comes in a spray can. Spray in the key hole area and swab out any gunk with a q-tip.

It could possibly be your key. If you have a security "chip" on your key and it's not making contact in the ignition then that will keep the car from starting. Check it out, hope I've helped!

If you have a spare key try using it. If it does not haqppen with it then it sounds like the chip in the key is going bad. Go to a dealership and have a new one made.
