Does anyone really agree with this statement? Usually words hurt more because the pain lingers and stays with you. Especially if the attacker is someone you trust and care for.

i agree. when you love someone & trust them, then you truly do want to be acccepted by them. they are the reason you keep going, and when they say things that makes you think you arent good enough for them... it hurts. it hurts very bad.

P.S. I love you!

This statement was used long before I was even born (1958).
As my mother would tell use when being made fun of or other saying out of her mouth was, "Turn the other cheek".

I do not agree with this statement as I have found out by my own life experiences that words can hurt just as bad if not more in a mental state being.
I do believe though to try to ignore much said hurting words but only time has it's limits!
Today I teach my children to seek out a teacher, principle and a parent (Me) if this continues.
May have worked many moons ago but in the world today and it's rapid changes won't wash in my eye's!
Just an opinion. Thank you.

Answering it 2nd time. :) You know what the problem is.... When I was young I had the same problem. I am told something to believe and as I knew no better I believed in them. But there were always questions, I feared those question cause I thought I would go to hell. But the things is, questions are the ways that you understand what you believe. How o you know that the Christianity you are believing is true? You don't. You are told, so you think it is true. How much you know about the church history ? You would see violence in the name of God by the church priests and "Fathers". If you read the bible thoroughly with open mind that whatever the truth you will accept it, the you will see that bible is a book of fiction or just a tool of power use by the church to control people. The more you will avoid those questions in your heart, the less will you know, the less you will get peace... So, ask the questions, read, learn and decide for yourself. As you are jumping up and down to have a relationship with God, first try to understand Him by the books of different religions. If you see that they don't say the truth, continue the search. Eventually you will get the answer one way or another, no matter there is a god or not.

Yes, I always thought that was a dumb statement. Notice they say "words will NEVER hurt me". That is so false. Words can hurt very deeply, and stay with you longer than it takes for a physical wound to heal. Maybe the motto was made up because the person was trying really hard not to care what somebody said about them. That's hard to do though.

No, I disagree with that statement ("Sticks and stones..."). A broken bone will only hurt for a little while, but an unkind word may (and usually will) stick with you for the rest of your life.

Words can really sting. I can remember stuff said to me when I was a kid, and it still kind of hurts. I try to be real careful when I'm frustrated to watch what I say around my friends and family because I know that the sting can stay for a long, long time.

I agree! Last week, I posted a Question about one of us in Y!A, had a Son that had just died. Although SIXTY-THREE People sent words of encouragement? There were three others that wished her ill-will. At a time when she was mourning the death of her Child. I'll let you pnder that. But I do wish you the Best of the Weekend!!

Nope, I don't agree with it. Words can always pierce through you emotionally. They couldn't hurt physically like sticks and stones, but they stick with you because they're from other people who apparently can see things about yourself that you can't.

OH let me tell you WORDS CUT DEEP.
They hurt both parties when all is said & done~~
What goes around, comes around. OH yes !!!
I have seen the effects of word damage in my own family.
You can't take back words, once they have been said.
"OH, how I wish I could go back, and erase all the pain, my own words, have caused others, in my life. I can't.
I can only humbly say, that "I am truly sorry" and hope that they will forgive me.
That is not who I really am.~~~jill

It depends on how you look at it, really. Physical damage, these days, can easily be repaired; mental damage, on the other hand, is quite a bit harder. Still, if someone gives me a hard time verbally, I usually make like a duck and let it slide off. (That's a lot, considering who I have to deal with...)
