The main difference is the number of chromosomes.

Other differences are the genes in the chromosomes that can become active - for example, no matter how long we evolve, I don't think we can ever grow gills - because we simply aren't wired for that.

Depends on the animal...Chimps share 99% of our DNA while other primates also share a good deal but not as much. Other things like Chickens share very little if any REAL DNA structure. But FYI all embryos DO form the same. If you look at the embryo of a chicken, monkey, fish, or even human...for the first few weeks of life they look identical.

*** the first post is not correct! We actually DO have gills...or at least our ancestors did...they would be the three small bones of the inner ear. And the same three bones form gills in fish, and the same three bones allow snakes to dislocate their jaw to swallow their prey. As evolution progressed the bones evolved for different speicalizations.
