They know now that they should'nt have left their kids alone but why all the hatred towards them for having media attention? The more coverage they get of little Madeleine the better & hopefully the sooner she will be found.
I've read ridiculous comments on here saying the parents are milking all the publicity & care more about which celebrity will back them next & how much money they have made through their daughters disappearence. Thats just nonsense!
& those who say if it were me "I'd be breaking down on the news" How the hell do you know until you have had your child abducted? Just because they're not crying morning, noon & night doesn't mean they're not dying inside, they're just trying to stay positive & if their daughter is found dead, God forbid, then they will fall to pieces. I think they're doing a great job of keeping things 'normal' for the sake of their other kids!
Instead of slating them, just thank God its not your child! All you 'perfect' parents out there!

In reply to Hallie, I don't have 'Lord Longford syndrome' I would have hung Hindley myself, you can't compare the McCanns to a monster!

& I would'nt personally have left my children unattended BUT I am not going to slate the poor parents who must wish every single minute of everyday that they had'nt left her!

i haven't been following the store very closely, i know the basics behind it, and i hope the best for that little girl.

they did something they never should have done, left their little babies alone, and that is criminal. they should be prosecuted for that.

yes, they are parents, and i'm sure they realize now how stupid what they did was, and they are suffering the consequences of it as a result. i do feel bad for them, but they have to take some responsibility for what they did. an innocent child is missing, and possibly dead, and they are partly responsible for that for leaving the children alone.

as for the media coverage, ok, they're soaking it up, getting money through it, but maybe that's the only way they can think of to deal with the situation, is it something everybody would do? no! the media shows what "sells", and prosperous people losing a child is more important (sad but true) to society in GENERAL, that the media is going to soak it up and run it into the ground.

yes, media coverage is good for making the public aware of the situation, or for getting the little girls face out there. i think the coverage should be more about the little girl than the family, and i agree that the family should be facing criminal charges, and CPS should be looking into the safety of the other children. i'm not saying that the other children should be taken away, maybe this was a one time thing, i don't know, but they're safety should be foremost, and investigated.

my hopes are with that little girl, but there is no telling where this will end up. so many kidnappings have sad outcomes.

Surely what would be sensible from the McCann's is to acknowledge that they were wrong to leave their children. Instead we have the suggestion that at worst they were naive, and that it was a safe resort, and that thousands of others would have been just as careless. No-one surely would have expected them to think their child would be abducted - however, it is irresponsibility of the highest, not naivety to not consider the damgers of fire (especially in an apartment block) or of cot death or other sudden illness. It beggars belief, that when there were facilities they could use, they chose not to. Also, we were told there were half hourly checks - but then told they left them at 8, checked at 9 and she was missing at 10. This would certainly fot with the supposed sighting by the friend of her in the arms of the abductor at 9.30 - because if the half hourly checks had really been happening, the parents would have been with her then.
As this was a meal with a lot of friends (and one wonders whether their children had also been left - does anyone know?), why couldn't they go in shifts - especially as it is tapas, so by it's very nature, it's a meal you can nibble bits of and then come back for more. The truth that the parents will not own up to (and I can understand why as it is a painful one) is that their selfishness has probably cost their daughter's life.

As regards the interview, I think it is unfair to criticise their demeanour in it - they were, accordng to The Times, given guidance by criminal profilers not to display emotion, because the person who had abducted the child could get off on that. It is, however, perfectly reasonable to criticise their constant self-justification - but then what do you expect from a woamn from the Capital of Self-Pity

All it takes to keep Madeleine's plight in the public eye is for them to use some of this money they are getting to pay newspapers to print Madeleine's picture on the front page each day with the caption "Madeleine still Missing, The Search Goes On". Why the hell do we need to know every little move they make? They don't matter, Madeleine does, who the feck cares how fast they can run? Is that going to bring her back? Don't think so!!!
I wish you and all the other sufferers of Lord Longford Syndrome would just wise up a little.
This has nothing to do with being perfect, it's called being a mother.

What I mean is, you defend people who don't deserve defending, just like he did, Hindley has nothing to do with this case.

I have gotten to the stage that I can't bear to hear their names anymore. I get really annoyed when I see their faces on TV all smiles and jolly. Their little girl is still missing, all I want is for their poor child to be found (hopefully safe and well).
Every time I hear their names I become more and more angry.
Why are they having any pity at all.
The interview that they gave was not a normal 1, they compared the meal that they were enjoying as if they were having a meal in their garden.
Where are the tears on any normal mother grieving for the disappearance of their child.
Facts are facts they left 3 little babies in an apartment unsupervised, sorry they were checking every 30 Min's, well they were proven wrong it was actually 50 Min's.
What the hell were they thinking of, the reason that they aren't coming home is because they know deep down that the British people will not welcome them with open arms.

I have only expected one thing from the McCanns, and that is to hire a PI to find their daughter, which they should have done first thing in the morning on May 4th. It is the best shot they have got, it always was, yet they have decided the best way is to do interviews and go on power runs (with the media following them) and now they want to go to see the Pope.

Do you really think they're doing a great job of keeping things "normal"? Let me put this scenario to you. You go on holiday, and on the fifth day, one of your children disappears. For the sake of your other children, do you:

a) Go home, where your children can sleep in their own beds and be looked after by the nanny who raised them from birth; or

b) Stay on holiday indefinitely, and put them in a kids' creche with virtual strangers?

c) Take them all over the world in a private jet?

The McCanns have chosen (b) and (c). Doesn't make any sense at all to me.

The criticism is justified;

because a) they have not admitted to their neglect which is this country and others would have seen them being prosecuted and their children taken into care by social service.

b) because those that think this is a mistake are obviously blind to the amount of information and missing case person and other dangers and harm that happen to children and they were not to blame....In many similar cases to the McCanns when we we look for responsibility the parents are in the frame.... but in this case the McCanns seem to escape the fact that had they been with their children they wouldnt have gone missing or do they beleive they are actually incapable of protecting their children when they say "even if we were in the bedroom next door our guilt would have been the same"
c) that when people defend them by saying their response and their behaviour cannot be empathised... This is not true...
Most parents think walk and talk their children all their lives because of the danger everybody faces and the fact the if something does happen they could not forgive themselves....
d) Because of the widespread coverage and support and yellow ribbons for one chld that is unprecendented in cases like this.... If you ask for parents of other runways children ... they have driven to local radio stations and met with thepolice with a fraction of the help.....
e) Because this is a case of kidnap which is why you look after children in your care.... would you be sympathetic to the creche if they had left the children alone and the child went missing... would the McCanns forgive the creche... or would they be sueing?
f) Did parents of other misisng children think they had a right to meet the Pope because of their greif and suffering??
h) Above all because of the plenty of opportunity the parents have to express their interests as plainly and to diffuse some of their criticsm so easily for in other cases people have to fight for justice.... What about the parents ofthe guy shot by police in Stockwell tube station because he was in the wrong place at the worng time?

Lets not forget WHY their daughter is missing. Had she been cared for properly, she would be with them now and they would be an unknown family. I am not a parent yet, I have 5 months to go before I have that privilege, but believe me, I have enough common sense to know that my child should not be out of my sight while I go out and have fun on holiday. The publicity is to mask their stupid mistake, the mistake that has probably cost their daughter her life. I don't give two hoots about the McCanns, I do however care about their little girl who didn't ask to be taken from her parents.

I wonder if they would be having an audience with the Pope if they were two working class chavs who went 100 meters over the road to the pub, don't think so, they would probably have to go into hiding.

ShesElec you know there are always people like you who come fire or high waters will take an opposite view from the mass //come on now these two people do not deserve any help in their corner they went out partying with i understand with 12 more people so the kids were maybe second thought in their minds at a coming exciting evening with friends, they were wrong and i think they should be punished besides having to live with it the rest of their lives if the little darling is found! but dead! god forbid

We are as entitled to our opinions just as you are!

And i do not agree with your opinion.

No parent is perfect but it doesn't take a perfect parent to realise you just don't leave kids of that young age alone. Now that is just common sense!

And I repeat what i said earlier.....WHY no emotion? Again it;s not being a perfect parent to show emotion it;s just something most are able to do at a bad time such as this.

I do not hate them..why should I? I don;t know them personally BUT I do also feel sorry for all children out there that are also missing that have not had the help and cash that the McCanns have.
Of course I want their little girl to be found.

someone else mentioned the "living hell" the McCanns are going through???? What about the living hell their little girl has been put through then...does that count????!!!!
