I need lightweight software for my g3 ibook with OSX10.3. Everything from browsers and video players, torrent downloaders, office productivity and such. Freeware is better.

GO to your retailer. The reason that macs are good is because they controll the software that gets released. However that cuts down on bredth of selection and greatly increases the prices. "Can you say MONOPOLY". Anybody and their brother can release software for pc, that brings down the price. Competition USUALLY increases quality, but people who are bottom fishers just get the cheap stuff even though, as you say, there is alot of excellent open source stuff. I'd consider doing boot cam or a virtual pc and using GOOD quality windows software.
