Please. We are not even close to Germany's situation. Take time to study a little history instead of repeating leftist talking points. Help America be better!

The German people did not care, because after the oppressive war reparations from WWI, the German people had lived in poverty. Hitler played on the anger and resentment and instilled nationalist pride. Once he gained power he nationalised everything and discontinued the war reparations. He built an army, navy and air force that was second to none and invested heavily in the defense industry. The news was controlled by the Nazi party and any dissent was squelched by a powerful state run police force.
There are some parallels, I think. We spent more on national defense than the next 16 countries, and that was before Iraq. Our president believes that America is always best and condones unillateral action. Our news is controlled by a very few wealthy men/corporations. With the Patriot act, any governmental law enforcement agency can label you as a terrorist and throw you in jail, with no phone call, no rights. Our current administration condones torture and wire tapping without prior approval of a judge on anyone, anywhere.
There are a few who realize what is going on in this country, but VERY few.
Great question. Keep the rage against the machine!

'When people fear the government, it is tyranny. When government fears the people, it is liberty," said Benjamin Franklin.
We are perilously close to living in a totalitarian state. The Bush administration has followed right in Hitler's earliest footsteps, It's not as far away as some people might think. Bush has run ripshod over the Constitution, turned our nation into a police state, and instilled fear among the populace, EXACTLY the things Hitler proposed.
Americans are far too slothful, uninformed, and careless about their government. We are falling into the hands of a totalitarian dictatorship...sooner rather than later. -RKO- 05/27/07

I agree with RKO. America is pretty close. With things like the Patriot Act and the National ID card (next year), we are getting closer. Of course, this is all done under the guise of safety to protect us from "terrorism". It's difficult because the mainstream news outlets only broadcast propaganda, so that's all people know. People don't even realize that their civil liberties are being violated because they are scared of terror or they are just plain ignorant.
However, because the internet is not being regulated yet, it is a great way to educate people on what is really going on with this country and the world. That's a really positive thing, and I think a lot of people are starting to realize that things are not as they seem. We have to stand up to the government. If we don't care about our Constitutional rights, the government will gladly take them from us.

The U.S. government can be totalitarian when it needs to be already. If it wants to destroy a person or company it can, by starting rumors, tax audits, create job problems, etc. It can have you vanish and what recourse would anyone have, really?
Fearing the knock on the door in the middle of the night is an easy way to tell.

uhhh...i'll let you know when you have to start worrying about death camps. If the president writes a boook about his intention to take over the world and establish destroy all other ethnic groups besides his own and if he then starts trying to conquer south america then we might have a problem on our hands. And still, to do all of this, he would probably have to be elected to a 3rd consecutive term as president which is impossible so you don't have to start squirming yet.
p.s. you're an idiot.
