Turn the ignition key, do you hear a click, if you do then the starter relay is working. Listen for the starter solenoid to click, this engages the Bendix gear into the flywheel to crank over the engine.Another method of troubleshooting is to turn on the lights, then have someone try to start the car, if the lights dim A LOT (its normal for the lights to dim a little) and its not cranking over then the starter is bad, remove it and have it checked out. hopefully your engine is not locked up.

If the battery has stacked terminals, there is a possibility that there is corrosion between the cable ends.
also, follow the positive cable up to the junction block on the firewall and check the connections there
Also try tapping on the starter while someone tries to start it

Could be a bad neutral safety switch---try wiggling the shifter up and down like you're shifting while you turn the key to start position. If it starts, the neutral safety switch needs adjustment--if not, it could be bad. As other posts have stated, it could be the ignition switch, starter, solenoid or wiring is bad also.

check your battery connection,s....must be clean & tight....have a breakdown test performed on your battery...test your battery for voltage....must show at least 12 volt,s....try jump starting the system...if that work,s ....have your charging system checked...if not...have your starting system annalized..good luck!

Maybe it's the timing belt.
