First you will need to subscribe to a Cable or DSL Provider.

Then you will need to purchase the following equipment:
-Broadband Modem (Provided by the ISP when you subscibe to the Internet)
-Wireless Router (I like D-Link Myself)
-Wireless network Adapter (You will need one foe every computer you wish to connect wirelessly to the internet, I use USB adapters for desktops and PCMCIA adapters for laptops)

Once you have your Internet Service Provider (ISP) then you will set the equipment up like this:
-Cable from the wall to the broadband modem
-Ethernet Cable from the broadband modem to the WAN (Internet) port of the wireless router
-Install all wireless adapters in any computers you want wireless

Then follow the instructions that come with the router to configure it and that should do it.

Subscribe to broadband, buy a wireless router and if your machine does not have a wireless card you need to install one. Then follow the setup instructions for the router.

first you a need a usb network adapter, you can get those from linksys, netgear and more companies.connect that to your computer with the software that comes with it, then u have to buy a modem, u shud either set it up with comcast or verizon, as they are the best u will ever get in america, u connect that to a phoneline, verizon has a service to set that up for u if u use verizon, comcast also has something like that, but less reliable. tat u must connect the modem to the router, again, u can get a router from netgear, linksys, or any other company, then u get to create ur own unique ssid, this the network name, u shud probably name it after your family, like "smithconnect", so thats ur ssid, u also have choice to password protect ur network, so that a car passing by ur house stops, turns on his laptop, searches for networks, he finds urs, but can enter, any computer that uses the network must use the password to enter, there is different kinds of passwords, a WEP, for hexadecimal, use 10 or 26 characters from the ranges 0-9, a-f, and A-F. for ACII, use 5 or 13 characters, for WPA-PSK (TKIP), use for hexadecimal 64 characters from the ranges 0-9, a-f and A-F, for ASCII, use 8 to 63 characters. for password encrypt WPA-PSK (AES), use for hexadecimal 64 characters from the ranges 0-9, u know the rest, and for ASCII, use 8 to 63 characters, i know tis all sound EXTREMELY confusing, i recommend for personal use, WEP, and i also recommend for WEP is to use the hexadecimal regulations, hexadecimal: 64 characters from the ranges 0-9, a-f and A-F. then u set up the router, go to ur computer where u have set up ur network adapter, open the program that comes with it, for linksys, click on the site survey tab, for netgear click on networks, it will scan for networks, look for urs in the list, double click it, if u used a password, enter the password you've made in the network process of setting up the router, and.....and..,...and....OMG...OMG and....and ...... like omg... IIIIIINNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTT ACCESS - INTERNET ACCESS GRANTED, enjoy dsl at at about 354 kbps, the speed of light lol, enjoy, i hope this helps, i have been sitting here for about 35 minutes typing this!!

oh, and by the way, this type of connection is what we call infrastructure
