In the Arctic, you'd be concerned about the melting point / freezing point because you don't want the insides of the thermometer freezing up. The solid form of a substance doesn't contract and expand at the same rate as the liquid form, leading to inaccurate readings.

The melting point of ethyl alcohol is −114.3 °C, while the melting point of -38.83 °C. Since temperatures in the Arctic could go below -40 °C, you'd want a thermometer with ethyl alcohol.

Sweating keeps the body cool through vaporization. Whenever a liquid evaporates, it needs to absorb heat to enter the more energetic gaseous state. The water in your sweat would get this heat energy from your body, so since you lose heat, you feel cooler.

Ethyl alcohol will be the right choice for the cold arctic because it has a lower melting point than mercury. Melting point of mercury is 234 K and that of ethyl alcohol is about 156 K. Mercury will freeze at the temperatures of the arctic region (which could be about 200K or lesser too).

Melting point of ice which is 0 Degrees Celsius is 273.15 K.

yaaa, the only substances is.........ethyl. because:

ethyl(1) freezing point is very low.

but if we compared them, still mercury is better, because it more stable than ethyl.
