when they are not or never have been married? i dont think its right! i think its kind of insulting to compare the two things.i know i am old fashioned but if he didnt marry you -you are not a wife and dont deserve the title.what is it that makes people feel they can say that when its just not true.childbirth makes you a mother not a wife! living together makes you a room mate but not a wife - there are big differences.

In some states when a man a woman share a home together and does all the things a married couple do, you are consider married. Exspecially if you lived together for a certain amount of time. In today's society there is not that much different anymore, unless you go before a judge to have the right to carry that person last name.

Under the definition of 'common law' if one refers to the other as their spouse, then they are so under the law (a very general paraphrase). Just because they did not have a ceremony in a church or before a judge does not mean they do not share the same affection. If they want to refer to each other in that manner, why is it any harm to you? They still have the same responsibilities etc. "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet." (or as I usually say..a rose by any other name would still stink...) Get over it, live and let live, to each their own etc etc. Sorry, but I don't think you have a right to complain, it's not an 'exclusive club' this thing we call 'marriage' so why sweat it?
