You could try to squeeze the electrical contacts a little that are inside the base of the boot where they snap on to the spark plug's metal contact. Use pliers and don't squeeze very hard so you won't scrunch the contacts totally closed or damage the plug wire's boot. Squeeze a little, then see if the boot snaps on the plug with a positive click.

If the any of the set is physically defective or just plain old, replace all 4 spark plug wires. Take care to replace 1 at a time (just make it easy for yourself and start from 1 to 4).

When pushing the boot onto the end of the plug, you should hear and feel a slight click.
Also, take care when connecting the other end to the coil, that too should feel/sound a slight click.

If you opt not to replace the set, inspect the wire that is giving you trouble, for any broken plastic or rubber. If it's coming off the plug end, you may be able to carefully crimp it a bit. If it's coming off the coil end, likely time for a new set of wires. :o)

That code is for a misfire. This can be caused by many things, plugs are just one (I hope you gapped them) , bad wires, wires in wrong firing order (you mixed them up) bad distributor cap and/or rotor just to mention a few. ... I don't know why you are linking a misfire to a bad alternator, but to check your alternator you need a voltmeter , running you should have approx 14 volts at the battery terminals. Key off approx 12V . I guess if your alternator was bad your voltage could drop enough to cause a misfire but if it will crank and the headlights are full brightness I'd say your battery and alternator are ok. You should also get a battery warning light that never goes out on the dash.

Try pushing it on harder untill you hear or feel a "click".

Or replace the wire.

Is the little alluminum end piece of the spark plug unscrewed into the spark plug boot?

Has the plug wire pulled up into the boot too far? Push the boot farther onto the wire and try it again.

There could be a number of problems...

Replace all the wires and spark plugs.

The safest, most inexpensive thing to do is just replace the wire or all the wires at home. It is a very easy procedure.

If it falls off when driving, obviously the little clip that is supposed to hold it on has failed. Replace the wire.
