For everybody who said that it goes non playoff teams, playoff teams, the SB teams, sorry but that is incorrect. The draft goes worst to best in record all the way up to pick 31 which is the Superbowl loser, then the Superbowl winner. I know this because 2 years ago the Jacksonville Jaguars were 9-7 and missed the playoffs but they still drafted after the Rams, a playoff team at 8-8.

1 overall picks or 1st rounders in general? I know QBs have been a bust in recent years with the likes of Brady Quinn, Jamarcus Russell, Dante Cullpepper, etc. If we are going on 1st round draft picks then there is definitely a mixed bag here. However, I'm going to assume you mean #1 overall. Here is a list of the past 10 #1 overall picks in the NFL draft. 2000 Courtney Brown Defensive end Penn State Cleveland Browns; WHO??? 2001 Michael Vick Quarterback Virginia Tech Atlanta Falcons; He still has a shot of being a starting QB in the NFL. Will he reemerge? Only time will tell. 2002 David Carr Quarterback Fresno State Houston Texans; If he had an o-line and a RB during his tenure in Houston then he would have had a better run in Houston. 2003 Carson Palmer Quarterback USC Cincinnati Bengals; Injuries has slowed this man down and he might actually have a shot at winning a little if he can rally the team for an entire season. 2004 Eli Manning Quarterback Ole Miss San Diego Chargers (traded to the New York Giants); Super Bowl CHAMP!!! 2005 Alex Smith Quarterback Utah San Francisco 49ers; This franchise use to have great QBs but now they can't even have a consistent starter. 2006 Mario Williams Defensive End North Carolina State Houston Texans; Multi-year pro-bowler and sack machine. 2007 JaMarcus Russell Quarterback LSU Oakland Raiders; He works for Al Davis, need I say more? 2008 Jake Long Offensive Tackle Michigan Miami Dolphins; Pro-Bowler 2009 Matthew Stafford Quarterback Georgia Detroit Lions; He is a quality quarterback that needs a quality RB to help him out. Does Barry Sanders have a son? A lot of pressure is put on these #1 picks to perform as if they were the best player ever. I'm picking Bradford to go bust because of his shoulder problems. One good lick from Ray Lewis or Mario Williams and he'll be out for 4-6 weeks. Suh has a chance to be STUD in the NFL. McCoy is the best QB in this draft class and that's saying something considering he didn't win the heisman.

The draft works like this. The teams come in order of their records, or if they traded there spot last year for the one currently. The Super Bowl Champs go last. The worst record goes first and continues on. Teams can trade up and down though to pick a certain player they wouldn't be able to gain before.

The NFL draft starts with the teams who had the worst record during the regular season unless somebody had made a trade with that team during the season or previous draft or even during that draft. The last picks are based on the same thing which is who had the best record, went the farthest in the playoffs, and who made trades with that team.

Two Super Bowl teams pick last. Remaining playoff teams pick in reverse order based on record, from 21-30. Non-playoff teams pick in reverse order of record as well, from 1-20.
