Classical literature seemed to find its expression WITH the changing times, the changing attitudes and trends of the country. Todays literature, however, seems different. It seems to want to hit you right in the face with situations, ideas, that are designed to ignite emotions, and sway general opinion.
Its only my way of seeing it, but literature today seems less an expression of the author, the culture, the society, than a preconceived movie script for Hollywood to turn into the next box office smash......

As an Icelander, I would say that the 'Sagas of the Icelanders" is truly the poetry of the North Atlantic. It sprang from the pure genius of a the smallest nation in Europe and the sagas can certainly hold their own with the literature of the great Mediterranean. Check it out. tfw
