If you haven't seen his movie autobiography '8 Mile', then you should rent it or see it. His mother was an alcoholic who only cared about men more than raising her son and left him virtually alone most of the time. She was also an alcoholic. The movie was really a good portrayel of his life growing up and trying to make it in the world of hip hop. Em plays himself in the movie.
His music reflects a lot of the pain he felt growing up.
